-
- Welcome to EB, the Electronic Book, tutor. Take a few
- minutes now to familiarize yourself with the features of EB.
-
- HyperText is a nonlinear presentation of text. Instead of
- progressing sequentially from page to page in the thought
- pattern prescribed by the author, you are given a choice in
- the direction that your thoughts can flow.
-
- Try this: by moving the cursor, or pressing tab, or typing
- the letter t, select ~this hot-spot~ and press "enter".
-
- Now that you're back let's proceed with your instruction by
- activating ~lessons~.
-
- <|Backtrack|Lessons|>
- >|Backtrack|Go Back|Unjump|Retrace steps|<
-
-
- Very good, you just made a hyperjump!
-
- To go back from where you came from press AltF1 or the
- BackSpace key. Good ahead and backtrack!
-
- <||>
- >|Lessons|<
-
-
- Now that you know how to hyperjump and return go ahead and
- select the following lessons one by one in order.
-
- ~Getting Help~
- ~Table of Contents~
- ~Index~
- ~Jumping to another program~
- ~Jumping to another file~
- ~View EB.HTX~
-
- Remember pressing AltX exits EB!
- <|Help|Table of Contents|Index|System/Spawn Calls|Far Topic|EB.HTX|>
- >|Help|<
-
-
- All you need to do to remember EB's commands is to press F1
- then press ESC to return to the topic you were reading or
- press the key of what you want to do.
-
- Go ahead and press F1 followed by ESC.
-
- Now return to the lesson roster by pressing what? If you
- don't remember press F1!
-
- <||>
- >|Table of Contents|<
-
-
- If you want to view a Table of Contents containing all
- topics of the current hypertext file you are viewing press
- F10 or AltT and ESC to return. Go ahead and try it.
-
- Take note that the TOC (Table of Contents) window starts out
- with the cursor bar on the topic you are reading right now.
- This lets you know where you are in the file and what the
- neighboring topics are.
-
- See what happens if you type the prefix characters of any of
- the topics. If you press enter you will be taken to that
- topic. Be sure to backtrack eventually to the lesson roster
- and continue your tutorial!
-
- <||>
- >|Index|<
-
-
- If you are not familiar with using the ~Table of Contents~
- ~hyperjump~ there now.
-
- The index contains all topic and clues to topics in
- alphabetical order. The clue is separated from the topic by
- a "|" character. You can hyperjump from the index to any
- topic by selecting it and pressing enter.
-
- Go ahead and look at the index by pressing AltF10 or AltI.
-
- Be sure to backtrack eventually to the lesson roster and
- continue your tutorial!
-
- <|Table of Contents|BackTrack|>
- >|System/Spawn Calls|<
-
-
- You can also ~hyperjump~ to DOS system commands or programs.
- It's all up to the hypertext author (you'll more about that
- latter).
-
- Try these calls
-
- ~dir~ ~time~ ~date~
-
- Now backtrack to the lesson roster to continue your
- tutorial!
- <|BackTrack|^>dir|^>time|^>date|>
- >|Far Topic|<
-
-
- A topic located in another hypertext file is called a far
- topic in EB jargon.
-
- Now be sure to come right back!
-
- Go ahead and view ~Registration in EB.HTX~
-
- Now backtrack to the lesson roster to continue your
- tutorial!
- <|Registration^eb.htx|>
- >|EB.HTX|<
-
-
- You are now ready to go on your own through ~EB.HTX~.
-
- You may wish to compare eb.doc and eb.htx. Eb.htx was
- copied from eb.doc and the hypertext specifiers were then
- added.
